Serving Monroe, Indian Trail, Waxhaw

Monroe, Waxhaw and Indian Trail: notarized without the drive.

Many Union County households have parents nearby and children elsewhere. Online notarization will let an adult child in another state and a parent in Union County each sign from where they are, when the document allows it.

For a will, codicil or trust, or a vehicle title, you'll sign on paper in person. Our Charlotte-area office is about 25 miles from Monroe, or we can come to you.

Growing families in Waxhaw, Indian Trail and Monroe.

Union County has grown fast as families moved into Waxhaw, Indian Trail, Weddington and Marvin. New homes, new jobs and aging parents moving closer all bring paperwork: affidavits, powers of attorney and health care documents.

Busy schedules are the norm here, so we offer evening appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays and Saturday mornings. Once online notarization opens, many documents can be done from home without the drive up US-74.

Local tip: If a document is going to a closing attorney, ask them first which pages need notarizing and whether online signing is accepted.

Hospital, rehab and senior living

Notary visits in Union County when travel is hard.

A hospital room, rehab unit or senior-living apartment is often the easiest place for your loved one to sign. We help your family organize the notary part: what the document is, where the signer will be, and a time that works for everyone. We don't choose legal documents for you or tell you which option to pick.

Hospital visits

At Atrium Health Union in Monroe, subject to the hospital's visitor rules, the patient's condition and a quiet place to meet.

Skilled nursing & rehab

We coordinate with the front desk or the staff member the facility names before we arrive.

Assisted living & memory care

We confirm the community's sign-in, escort and resident-access steps ahead of time.

Home visits

For someone back home after a hospital stay, or receiving care at home, from Marshville to Waxhaw.

Important: Not every document can be notarized in every situation. The signer must take part willingly, meet North Carolina's ID requirements, and understand what they're signing well enough to tell the notary so. A diagnosis alone doesn't decide that, and a notary doesn't make medical or legal capacity decisions. If the signer can't do this on the day, the notarization can't go ahead.

Documents people ask about

What paperwork may need a notary?

The right steps depend on the exact document, its instructions and the signer's situation. Ask the attorney or whoever prepared it to confirm what's needed before you book.

Health care paperwork

A North Carolina health care power of attorney or living will needs two qualified witnesses as well as the notary. Many facilities don't let staff serve as witnesses.

Financial & property documents

Financial powers of attorney, affidavits and authorizations. The bank or company receiving it may have its own form or ID rules.

Facility & benefit forms

Benefit, insurance and permission forms. We can read the notarial instructions with you, but we can't tell you whether a form is legally sufficient.

Oaths & sworn statements

Some documents need an oath or affirmation; others need an acknowledgment. The wording on the document tells us which.

Don't sign early

Unless the instructions say otherwise, the signer signs in front of the notary. Leave the signature line blank until we arrive.

Not sure what you have?

Send us the document's title and its notary wording when you book. Please leave out medical details we don't need.

Before you book

Small details that make a big difference.

Gather these before you request a visit. If the signer is in a hospital or care community, allow time for staff approval and visitor steps.

  • The facility's name and street address, plus the building, floor, unit or room if you know it.
  • The document's title and how many people need to sign.
  • Whether the document is complete, with every page.
  • A current photo ID for each signer, or a heads-up if there isn't one.
  • Any witnesses the document requires. We don't supply witnesses.
  • One contact person who can answer a call about access on the day.

Don't write on, change or pre-sign the document to get ready. Follow the preparer's instructions.

On the day of the appointment

  • All witnesses are there on time, before the signing starts, each with a current photo ID.
  • The signer is rested and alert. Pick the time of day they're usually at their best.
  • The signer's photo ID is close by, not locked in a car or at home.
  • The document is complete and unsigned, with every page.
  • A quiet space is ready, and staff know we're coming.

We're notaries, not attorneys. We can't give legal advice, choose a document for you, or help fill one out. For those questions, please talk with a North Carolina attorney.

Interactive checklist

Is your visit ready?

Tick each item as you confirm it. Nothing is sent or saved, and it doesn't book anything.

Witnesses: if your document needs them, you arrange them, and they need to be there on time with a current photo ID. For a health care power of attorney or living will, that's two qualified witnesses. Check with the facility, because many don't let staff serve as witnesses.

Common needs

What Union County families ask us for.

  • Bedside signings in Monroe. Hospital, assisted-living and home visits across Union County, with travel agreed in writing before we go.
  • Financial power of attorney. Notarized online, a power of attorney must be recorded with a North Carolina Register of Deeds.
  • Affidavits and sworn statements. You'll swear or affirm on live video, then sign while your notary watches.
  • Family members in different places. Each signer can join from wherever they are in the U.S., when the document allows it.
Online sessions, in plain English

What happens when you sign online.

  • A state-licensed platform. Your session runs on a platform licensed by the North Carolina Secretary of State, never Zoom or FaceTime.
  • Your photo ID is scanned. The platform checks that your government-issued ID is genuine.
  • A few identity questions. Drawn from public records, so only you should know the answers.
  • Your notary matches your face to your ID on live video, then watches you sign.
  • Recorded and kept as North Carolina law requires, and your sealed document is delivered electronically.

Questions

Union County questions.

Do you travel to Waxhaw or Monroe?

Yes, within our Charlotte-area mobile service area. We give you the mileage fee in writing, at the IRS business rate, before we travel.

Where would I record a power of attorney?

A power of attorney notarized online must be recorded with a North Carolina Register of Deeds. Ask the attorney who prepared it which county to use. Union County's Register of Deeds is in Monroe.

Can a notary come to a hospital room in Union County?

Often, yes, but it isn't automatic. Atrium Health Union's visitor rules, the patient's condition, unit restrictions, timing and a suitable space all matter. Check with the hospital first, then request a visit with the exact location.

Can you notarize a power of attorney or health care directive at the bedside?

Many can be notarized at a bedside visit. A North Carolina health care power of attorney or living will also needs two qualified witnesses, which you arrange. Ask the attorney or preparer to confirm the signing steps before you book.

What if the signer is on medication, tired or has memory concerns?

The signer must take part willingly and be able to tell the notary they understand what they're signing. If they can't, the notary can't go ahead. A notary doesn't diagnose or decide capacity, so if you're unsure, talk with the care team or an attorney first. Choosing a time of day when the signer is usually alert helps.

Does a family member need to be there?

Not always. Family can help with access, but the notary must speak directly with the signer and confirm they're signing by their own choice, without pressure.

Do you bring witnesses?

No. If the document needs witnesses, you arrange them, and they need to be there on time, before the signing starts, with a current photo ID. For health care documents, many facilities don't allow staff to serve as witnesses, so plan ahead.

What ID does the signer need?

A current government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state ID or passport. If the signer doesn't have one, or the name doesn't match the document, tell us when you book so we can talk through the options North Carolina allows.

Can a notary tell us which document my parent should sign?

No. We're notaries, not attorneys. We can't choose documents, give legal advice or decide whether a document protects someone. Please ask a North Carolina attorney or the organization that provided the paperwork.

Can you guarantee same-day service or entry to a facility?

No. Timing depends on availability, travel, whether the document is ready, and the facility's permission. A request isn't confirmed until we confirm it with you.

Are the facilities listed on this page your partners?

No. They're listed only to help you tell us where the signer is. We don't claim any affiliation, endorsement or permission to enter. Confirm access with the facility directly.

When will online notarization start?

Online notarization in North Carolina starts once the Secretary of State licenses the first platform. No date has been announced. Join the Launch List and we'll email you the day our online appointments open.
