Local spotlight · Mecklenburg County

Charlotte families, wherever the family lives.

Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city, and many of the people who live here moved from somewhere else. That often means a parent in Mecklenburg County and a son or daughter in another state, both needing to sign the same power of attorney or affidavit.

Today, our team meets Mecklenburg County signers in person by appointment, or at a home, hospital or care facility. When online notarization opens, the family member out of state can sign from where they are, when the document allows it.

Local tip: Signing for a parent in a Charlotte hospital? Check the unit's visiting hours first, and tell us the room number when you book.

Notary help for real life in Charlotte

We bring the notary to you, across Mecklenburg County.

Charlotte is a hub for health care, colleges, home buying and small business, so notary needs come up everywhere, often when the signer can't easily travel. A mobile visit brings the signing to a hospital room, a dorm-adjacent coffee shop, your kitchen table or your office.

When getting to a notary is the hard part

Recovering, caregiving or just too busy to get away.

  • Hospital and rehab stays. We plan around patient care, visitor rules, privacy and the signer's comfort.
  • Senior living and family support. We ask whether your loved one can take part on their own, and about any staff scheduling rules.
  • Buying or refinancing a home. Send us the signing instructions ahead of time so we can confirm whether witnesses or a loan signing agent are needed.
  • Small businesses and contractors. We coordinate signers, IDs, completed documents and the deadline set by whoever receives them.

We're notaries, not attorneys. We confirm identity and perform the notarial act. We can't choose a document for you, give legal advice, explain what a contract means, or promise that a bank, court or school will accept it.

We're notaries, not attorneys. We can't give legal advice, choose a document for you, or help fill one out. For those questions, please talk with a North Carolina attorney.

Interactive checklist

Is your appointment ready?

Tick each item as you confirm it. Nothing is sent or saved, and it doesn't book anything.

  1. Share the basics. The document type, number of signers, location, timing and any witnesses.
  2. Confirm the instructions. The receiving party's rules, ID requirements and building access.
  3. Meet and notarize. Each signer takes part in person, willingly, with a valid ID.
  4. Send it back. Follow the receiving organization's instructions for returning the document.

Common needs

What Mecklenburg County families ask us for.

  • Bedside signings in Charlotte. Hospital, assisted-living and home visits across Mecklenburg County, with travel agreed in writing before we go.
  • Business documents. Contracts, resolutions and vendor forms signed between meetings, without leaving the office.
  • Family members in different places. Each signer can join from wherever they are in the U.S., when the document allows it.

Online sessions, in plain English

What happens when you sign online.

  • A state-licensed platform. Your session runs on a platform licensed by the North Carolina Secretary of State, never Zoom or FaceTime.
  • Your photo ID is scanned. The platform checks that your government-issued ID is genuine.
  • A few identity questions. Drawn from public records, so only you should know the answers.
  • Your notary matches your face to your ID on live video, then watches you sign.
  • Recorded and kept as North Carolina law requires, and your sealed document is delivered electronically.

Questions

Mecklenburg County questions.

Do you have a walk-in office in Charlotte?

No. Our Charlotte-area office is by appointment only, on designated days. Book ahead and we'll confirm the time and address.

Can you come to a hospital in Charlotte?

Yes. Our mobile service covers homes, offices, hospitals and care facilities in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Gaston, Catawba, Rowan, Iredell and Lincoln counties, with travel agreed in writing before we go.

Can you notarize a power of attorney or health care document?

Often, yes, if all the signing requirements are met. A North Carolina health care power of attorney or living will needs two qualified witnesses, which you arrange and who need to be there on time with a photo ID. Ask the attorney or preparer for the signing instructions before the appointment.

Can you explain a contract or tell me where to sign?

No. We're notaries, not attorneys. We can't give legal advice, choose a document for you, or explain what a contract means. Ask the person who prepared it, or a North Carolina attorney, before you sign.

What ID should I bring?

A current government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state ID or passport. If you have a special situation, like an expired ID or a name that doesn't match the document, tell us when you book.

Can you notarize real estate or loan documents?

Some can be notarized at a mobile visit. Lender and title packages often have their own rules, witnesses, timing, or a requirement for a trained loan signing agent, so send us the instructions before you book.

Do you meet UNC Charlotte or other college students?

Yes, depending on availability. Campus buildings may be restricted, so a spot off campus or your residence is often easier. Ask your school or agency exactly what it needs first.

Can a family member sign for someone in the hospital?

Only if they have legal authority to sign in that situation and the document allows it. A notary can't decide who has legal authority, so please ask an attorney or the receiving organization first.

Can you guarantee a bank, school or court will accept my document?

No. The receiving organization sets its own rules. Confirm the notary wording, witnesses, format and deadline with them before you sign.

How much does a mobile appointment cost?

$10 per notarized signature, as set by North Carolina law, plus travel at the IRS business mileage rate. We agree on the total in writing before we travel.

When will online notarization start?

Online notarization in North Carolina starts once the Secretary of State licenses the first platform. No date has been announced. Join the Launch List and we'll email you the day our online appointments open.
