Serving Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Spring Lake

Fayetteville and military families: notarize online.

North Carolina allows remote notarization for an active-duty service member, or a spouse or dependent, stationed outside the U.S. on a military base or vessel under orders of more than 120 days. That can help families split between Fayetteville and an overseas assignment.

Base legal assistance offices may offer free notary services to eligible service members. Online notarization is for when that isn't practical, for example when a family member is away from the base.

Common needs

What Cumberland County families ask us for.

  • Before a deployment or PCS move. Powers of attorney and affidavits so a spouse or family member can handle things while you're away from Fort Bragg.
  • Business documents. Contracts, resolutions and vendor forms signed between meetings, without leaving the office.
  • Financial power of attorney. Notarized online, a power of attorney must be recorded with a North Carolina Register of Deeds.
  • Affidavits and sworn statements. You'll swear or affirm on live video, then sign while your notary watches.
Online sessions, in plain English

What happens when you sign online.

  • A state-licensed platform. Your session runs on a platform licensed by the North Carolina Secretary of State, never Zoom or FaceTime.
  • Your photo ID is scanned. The platform checks that your government-issued ID is genuine.
  • A few identity questions. Drawn from public records, so only you should know the answers.
  • Your notary matches your face to your ID on live video, then watches you sign.
  • Recorded and kept as North Carolina law requires, and your sealed document is delivered electronically.
