NC Seniors & Caregivers Online Notary

Every family member, wherever they are.

  • Seniors at home or in care. In the 8 counties around Charlotte we come to the home, hospital, assisted living or nursing home, or meet at our office by appointment.
  • Adult children far away. Online notarization will let a son or daughter in another state sign from where they are, when the document allows it.
  • Caregivers and care managers. We coordinate times, explain what to have ready and review the document before anyone pays.
  • Facilities and social workers. Hospitals, hospice and senior living teams can refer residents and families to one reliable notary team. Tell us about your organization.

Before the visit

What families should know.

What caregivers can do

Book the visit, be there, and get the reminder. The signer still has to answer for themselves.

The signer

Must be alert, understand the document and sign willingly. We speak with them directly and stop if anything seems off.

Can't sign their name?

A signature by mark is often allowed. If they can't make a mark, someone else can sign for them in front of two witnesses.

Witnesses

Health care POAs and living wills need two qualified witnesses, and facility staff often aren't allowed to serve. Plan who will do it ahead of time.

No ID on hand?

Ask us before booking. For an in-person visit, a credible witness may be able to identify the signer.

Facility visits

Check visiting hours and check-in rules, and have the room number ready.

Ready to book?

Tell us where your parent is, what needs to be signed and who will be there. We'll confirm the travel cost in writing before we go.

How we make it easier

Unhurried, clear and respectful.

A notary's journal and stamp on the passenger seat on the way to a visit

We review the document first

So missing pages or blank certificates get fixed before anyone pays or travels.

We speak with the signer directly

In plain language, and we take the time they need.

Evenings and Saturdays

So working family members can be there.

Clear fees under NC law

Confirmed before your appointment. $10 per notarized signature in person, plus mobile travel agreed in writing first.

The notary must be satisfied that the signer understands the document and is signing willingly. If the signer can't communicate with us directly, we can't notarize. We're notaries, not attorneys, and can't give legal advice or choose documents.

Online sessions, in plain English

What happens when a family signs online.

  1. 1

    A state-licensed platform

Sessions run on a platform licensed by the North Carolina Secretary of State, never Zoom or FaceTime.

  2. 2

    Photo ID, scanned

The platform checks that each signer's government-issued photo ID is genuine.

  3. 3

    A few identity questions

Drawn from public records, so only the signer should know the answers. Some seniors find these hard, and in person is always an option.

  4. 4

    Face matched to the ID

The notary matches each face to the ID on live video, then watches each person sign.

  5. 5

    Recorded and kept

As North Carolina law requires, and documents are delivered electronically.

Questions

Questions families ask us.

Can I sign for my parent?

No. The person signing must be the person named in the document, appear before the notary and sign willingly. If your parent can't sign their name, North Carolina allows a signature by mark, or a designee signing for them in front of two witnesses with no interest in the document. Ask us before booking.

My parent lives here and I live in another state. Can we both sign?

Often, yes. Your parent can sign in person in the 8 counties around Charlotte now, and once online notarization launches, you can join online from anywhere in the U.S. when the document allows it.

Can hospital or facility staff be witnesses?

It depends on the document and the facility. Health care powers of attorney and living wills list who can't serve, and many facilities don't allow staff to act as witnesses. Plan to bring two qualified witnesses with photo ID.

What if my parent doesn't have a current ID?

For an in-person notarization, a credible witness who personally knows your parent, has no interest in the document and has their own ID may identify them. Online sessions require a current government-issued ID. Contact us before booking.
